Welcome to West Hawk, Cochrane, AB
West Hawk
West Hawk is a new, master-planned hillside community in the northwest section of Cochrane, developed by JL Developments. The development spans roughly 110 acres and rises about 70 metres from the lower lands along Highway 1A to the upland ridge — giving many homes panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains, the foothills, and the Town of Cochrane itself.
Why Choose West Hawk?
- Natural Setting & Lifestyle
A central feature of West Hawk is its integration of nearly 27 acres of “Environmental Reserve” — natural sloping land preserved for wildlife habitat, ravines, walking trails, rest-areas, and scenic viewpoints. Because of this, the community leans heavily into a “nature-inspired living” lifestyle — nice for families, outdoor lovers, or anyone who values green space and quieter surroundings. Over half of the homes are planned to back onto amenity space — whether that’s the ridge/backdrop of the reserve, a future off-leash dog park, or a planned playground and “tot lot.”
West Hawk will be developing schools within its district as it is developed (upon approval from Rockyview) but here are the Cochrane Schools per age group.
- Elizabeth Barrett (K-4)
- Mitford School (5-8)
- Cochrane High (9-12)
The plan for West Hawk includes not just homes but thoughtful community-oriented amenities:
trails, natural green space, a future K–9 school site within walking distance of most homes, plus a dog park and playground/tot-lot. That may make it especially attractive for families or buyers looking for a balanced lifestyle — combining secure, well-designed housing with nature access and convenience.

- Housing & Design
West Hawk isn’t just single-family homes — there’s variety: townhomes, duplexes/semi-detached, single-family houses, and “ridge homes” designed to take advantage of the elevation and views. The architectural style is being guided by a “Cochrane Modern” motif (and also a “West Hawk Farmhouse” flavour), blending modern design with nods to heritage — stone accents, natural-tone palettes, slope-adaptive layouts so homes step down with the terrain while preserving views. - Location & Access
West Hawk offers easy access: it’s just a short drive to downtown Cochrane (and from there, about 35–40 minutes to downtown Calgary via Highway 1A). For weekend recreation or mountain escapes — great for your outdoor-loving clients — it’s about 25 minutes to the beach and boat access at Ghost Lake. And for winter or mountain-air days, mountain-towns like Canmore are about a 40-minute drive away.
